How Can Dental Sedation Help You?

We get it—visits to the dentist aren’t something everyone looks forward to. Studies show that many adults even experience some level of anxiety about going to the dentist. But with sedation dentistry, you can stay relaxed and calm throughout your visit. You’ll be able to sit back and relax knowing that you’re in safe hands.

Some sedation methods, such as oral sedatives and nitrous oxide, allow you to stay awake but deeply relaxed. Others, like IV sedation or deep sedation, will likely make you sleep through the procedure and wake up without remembering it. This range of options allows us to tailor sedation to your comfort level.

What Are the Different Types of Dental Sedation Services?

Everyone’s needs are different. That’s why we offer several options:

  • Local Anesthetic: This numbs a specific area of your mouth, allowing you to be fully awake but pain-free during your procedure. Local anesthesia doesn’t make you sleep but can be combined with other sedation methods to help you feel more comfortable and relaxed.
  • Oral Sedative: Taken before your appointment, this pill helps you feel calm without putting you to sleep. You’ll remain awake but be deeply relaxed.
  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): This light sedative helps you relax and wears off quickly.
  • IV Sedation: This option offers a deeper level of sedation, often making you sleep through your procedure, allowing you to wake up with no memory of it.
  • Deep Sedation: For more extensive procedures, deep sedation keeps you fully asleep, ensuring a completely pain-free experience from start to finish.

No matter which dental sedation method you choose, we’ll be with you every step of the way to make sure you feel comfortable.

Why Dental Sedation is Safe and Effective

Your safety is always our top priority. Our team is highly trained in administering dental sedation techniques, and we carefully monitor you throughout the procedure to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Dental sedation allows for a completely pain-free experience, reduces anxiety, and even helps many patients recover more quickly after their treatment. In some cases, sedation can be combined with local anesthesia to ensure that you stay pain-free while also feeling calm or asleep, depending on your comfort needs.

Is Dental Sedation Right for You?

Dental sedation could be the perfect solution if:

  • You experience dental anxiety.
  • You need a longer or more complex procedure.
  • You have a low pain threshold or sensitive gag reflex.
  • You have trouble sitting still during your dental appointment.

If any of these sound familiar, dental sedation could help make your next visit more relaxed and less stressful. We’re happy to work with you to find the best option for your specific needs.

What to Expect Before and After Your Dental Sedation Appointment

Before your appointment, we’ll give you clear instructions to ensure you’re fully prepared. This might include avoiding food or drinks for a certain amount of time or staying away from specific medications.

If you’re receiving oral sedatives or IV sedation, you’ll need someone to drive you home afterward. For nitrous oxide, you can drive yourself home since those effects wear off quickly.

After your procedure, recovery times will vary depending on the dental sedation method. While nitrous oxide wears off fast, oral sedatives and IV sedation can take several hours. In all cases, you’ll want to avoid strenuous activity and follow our post-procedure care instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.

What Not to Do After Being Sedated

After receiving heavier dental sedatives, it’s important to avoid certain activities until the effects have fully worn off. You should not drive, operate heavy machinery, or make any important decisions for the remainder of the day.
